Names Daniel P. Egan as New President
PROVIDENCE – The Rhode Island Independent Higher Education Association (RIIHEA), the membership association comprised of Rhode Island's eight independent colleges and universities, today announced the appointment of Daniel P. Egan of Bristol as its new President.
Prior to assuming his new role as President of RIIHEA, Egan served as chief of staff in the Office of the Dean of Medicine and Biological Sciences in the Division of Biology and Medicine at Brown University.
"We are extremely excited that Dan will be leading our Association," said Irving Schneider, Ph.D., Chair of the RIIHEA Board of Directors and President of the Providence Campus of Johnson and Wales University. "We are confident that with the benefit of Dan's leadership, the Association and its members will play an even greater and more visible role in Rhode Island's civic and community life."
Mr. Egan has extensive experience in government relations and communications. He formerly served as vice president for government relations at The Hospital Association of Rhode Island (HARI). Prior to that, he served as vice president of government relations for Trion Communications. Egan also served as associate director of athletics at Brown University and assistant director of championships and sport administration at the BIG EAST Conference. He was assistant director of athletic media relations at his alma mater, Providence College. Egan additionally served as a graduate assistant in the media relations and marketing department at Boston College, where he received his Master of Arts degree in higher education administration.
"As a graduate of a RIIHEA member institution (Providence College '92) and having worked for two RIIHEA member institutions (Brown University and Providence College), I have seen first-hand the important social, economic and cultural impact that our independent institutions of higher education have on Rhode Island. I am confident that collectively these great institutions can further enhance their civic involvement, and I look forward to the challenge of working to make that a reality," stated Egan.
