Internship Position Overview: Academic Credit (Unpaid)

*10 – 12 week individual internships running from September 2011 through May 2012

Total Hours Per Week: 10 – 20

The Project Implementation Assistant will work with AICU Rhode Island staff to develop a broad-based understanding of the interaction between independent higher education, community engagement, and economic development in Rhode Island. The Assistant will primarily work on the bRIdge Program (an AICU Rhode Island-led, economic development/student engagement/knowledge economy initiative) under the direction of the bRIdge Program Manager and will be tasked or involved with some or all of the following activities:

• Development and implementation of core bRIdge programs (cross-campus internship system, mobile application for community engagement, regional steering committee, student entrepreneurship online hub)
• Research of best practices for similar projects in other communities
• Report creation and presentation
• Meeting coordination, attendance, and note-taking
• Management of social media presences
• Content management of two websites via Wordpress & Drupal CMS

Requirements

• Excellent communication skills (in-person, phone, and written)
• Ability to work remotely
• IT skills – Wordpress, Drupal, and social media management experience a plus

Dormcubator 2011 is a student engagement pilot program, which was born out of the bRIdge project, an AICU Rhode Island-led economic development initiative aimed at knowledge retention and attraction by better-connecting academics, business and community.  The overarching goal of bRIdge is to change the narrative for college students to one that identifies Providence, and Rhode Island, as a viable post-graduate destination for the 80,000+ students who attend colleges and universities in our state annually.

Designed with the idea that summer is a great opportunity to highlight Rhode Island to students, the six-week, live/work/learn Dormcubator 2011 was created for entrepreneurial-minded students from RI’s 10 colleges and universities.  Upon program graduation, these students will become bRIdge ambassadors for Rhode Island and its capital city.

Please join us for this celebration at which the 11 students who participated in the program will deliver presentations on their experiences and their perceptions of Rhode Island before and after participating in the program.

Dormcubator 2011 is a pilot program of the bRIdge initiative led by AICU Rhode Island with support from the RIBGHE, Cutler & Company, Hope Street Media, and Betaspring and hosted by Johnson & Wales University.

Funding was made possible and provided by the Innovation Providence Implementation Council (IPIC) of the Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce (GPCC), the Greater Providence Chamber Foundation, The Rhode Island Foundation, and the Providence Economic Development Partnership.

Project: Partnerships for Success (PFS) Paid Student Internship

Internship Position Overview

College student videographer intern sought for unique opportunity to showcase his/her creative, technological and communications skills through a paid internship working with, and under the direction of, the Partnerships for Success management team members. The scope of the project will primarily include video coverage of various Partnerships for Success programs.

*Compensation to be discussed and agreed upon with management team.

Scope of Project / Essential Job Functions

• Videotape and collect footage at program summits planned throughout the semester/internship period requiring 10 – 12 site visits to highlight specific partnerships;
• Conduct interviews to collect and document feedback during and after summits;
• Edit footage for public presentation exemplifying Partnerships for Success goals and accomplishments.

Requirements

• Basic film production knowledge and/or photography experience;
• Video editing experience;
• Ability to work both independently and under direct supervision
• Journalism and/or communications skills/experience (interviewing, etc.,) a plus;
• Student intern must have his/her own transportation and a flexible schedule.

Position Overview

The membership services assistant/student intern will work with and under the direction of AICU Rhode Island staff to develop a broad-based understanding of independent higher education in Rhode Island. The intern will assist with some or all of the following activities:

Essential Job Functions

• Special Projects
• Research/data collection & updating – Coordination & assembly of data
• Creation/design of reports, spreadsheets, interactive forms/surveys, etc.
  • Input of collected/updated data into reports, etc.
• Legislative bill tracking/monitoring & status reports
• Report completion & filings (lobbyist reports, higher education surveys, etc.)
• Attend peer group meetings & record meeting summaries/minutes
• Attend legislative hearings/meetings at the State House
• Communication/interaction with peer groups & member institution staff
• Meeting coordination, notification, and data requests/submissions
• Monitor/filter member news for Website updates & assist with submission of relevant updates

Non-essential Job Functions

• Occasional business-related errands
• Basic clerical office duties (filing, organization, etc.)
• Minimal scheduling
