Courtney Mattison calls herself a visual learner with a passion for the arts and the marine environment. In April, the then-Brown University graduate student unveiled a roughly 10-foot-by-15-foot ceramic coral reef in the lobby of the headquarters of the U.S. Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. The department is the parent of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the federal agency charged with overseeing America’s coastal waters. Mattison recently spoke with Providence Business News about her project and her future.
