Community Invited to RWU Inauguration Week

BRISTOL — The community is invited to several events next week at Roger Williams University in celebration of the inauguration of the university’s new president, Donald J. Farish, Ph.D.

Inauguration Week is from Monday, Oct. 10, through Friday, Oct. 14, and many of the events will be free and open to the public. The university will inaugurate its 10th president, Donald J. Farish, on Thursday, Oct. 13. Limited tickets are available to the public on a first-come, first-served basis. Call (401) 254-3201 for tickets.

New app for phone to help find a lawyer

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) – A Roger Williams University professor and lawyer co-founded a new application, LawyerUp, making legal advice accessible at all times.

“The thought was if I can get a pizza in 15 minutes why can’t I get a lawyer in 15 minutes,” LawyerUp attorney, Jason Knight said.

Currently available for Android phones, it will soon be ready for purchase on the iPhone.

Farish Was Rowan’s ‘Guiding Light’

Typically, a university commencement is the final step for students on their way to a diploma.

This year, it was Rowan University President Donald Farish’s final step, too.

After 13 years as Rowan’s head, directing major change and expansion as part of a 10-year plan, Farish is moving on to Roger Williams University in Rhode Island beginning in July.

RWU, Gordon launch teacher degree program

EAST PROVIDENCE — Teachers have a new way to earn a master’s degree in teaching, thanks to a unique partnership between Roger Williams University and a private school in East Providence.

In the Teacher Residency Program at The Gordon School, students will spend their days immersed in the classroom at The Gordon School, which spans nursery through middle school in East Providence. After the regular school day, graduate students will take theory classes from faculty members at both institutions. Graduates will earn a master of arts degree in teaching from Roger Williams University and elementary-school certification from the state Department of Education.
