8 local firms win PR honors

PROVIDENCE – Eight firms were honored for their public relations work last month.

The Southeastern New England Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America honored the firms at a ceremony Jan. 31 at McCormick & Schmick’s.

Salve Regina To Award 678 Degrees During Commencement Ceremony This Sunday

Salve Regina President Jane Gerety, RSM, will confer 678 degrees on Sunday, May 15, when the university celebrates its 61st commencement on the Oceanside lawn of McAuley Hall. The academic procession steps off at 9:15 a.m., with the ceremony scheduled to begin beneath the commencement tent at 10 a.m.

Salve Students Help Aquidneck Island’s Community Gardens Flourish for Good Cause

Salve Community Celebrates their new President

NEWPORT, R.I. – Urging students to be restless in spirit and keep open minds, Sister Jane Gerety was installed as Salve Regina University’s seventh president on Friday, taking over for Sister M. Teresa Antone, who announced last year that she would be retiring from her administrative duties.

Here, Sister Gerety, a former health care executive at Saint Joseph’s Health System in Atlanta, addresses students, faculty and guests for the first time in her new position.

Salve Regina University was awarded a $5,000 grant from the John E. Fogarty Foundation to help finance its Learning Unlimited program for developmentally disabled adults. The grant will support the second year of the program’s Defining Moments project, which pairs students from the university with developmentally disabled adult learners to collect their stories, photographs and quotes about defining moments in their lives for a book celebrating their lives.

Three students at Salve Regina University, junior Carin Heaney and seniors Alexandra Pereira and Samantha Sandland, are spending the summer investigating whether Applied Behavior Analysis can help children with autism become more aware of their social environment. Their work is done under the direction of Associate professor of psychology Sheila O’Brien Quinn

The students have each assumed responsibility for three children and will present the preliminary results of their research on Aug. 3 at the Ryan Center.

The research, supported by a grant from the National Institute of Health, is expected to continue for five years with the goal that 35 children with autism will receive this intensive programming. At least 15 Salve Regina students will be able to participate in the research.
