College and University Research Collaborative
The College & University Research Collaborative (the Collaborative) is a two-year pilot to provide data for informed economic policy decisions. The Collaborative was developed in response to calls from both public officials and community leaders to leverage the research capacity of the state’s 11 colleges and universities.
Following the Make It Happen RI economic development summit, the Rhode Island Foundation committed $100,000 to support the creation of the Collaborative. As a proactive community and philanthropic leader, the Foundation recognized the Collaborative as an opportunity for the public and private sectors to work together to improve the quality of life for all Rhode Island residents.
The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation (RIEDC) has matched the Foundation’s $100,000 in FY 2013, viewing the Collaborative as a cost-effective approach to leverage the state’s talent and resources for the development of sustainable economic policy. As the official economic development organization for the state of Rhode Island, the RIEDC serves as a government and community resource to help streamline business expansion in Rhode Island.
The Collaborative fulfills the AICU Rhode Island mission to:
- Interpret for the general public the role and contributions of institutions of higher learning in Rhode Island;
- Encourage and facilitate consultation and cooperation among association members regarding research;
- Provide state level policy and program leadership on higher education issues and coordinate the activities of Rhode Island’s independent colleges and universities;
AICU Rhode Island is the fiduciary and administrative agent for the Collaborative, overseeing the transition of the initiative into an autonomous organization. The Collaborative currently shares office space with AICU Rhode Island in Providence.
