First-Year Students at Roger Williams University Join Massive Community Service Effort

Third annual Community Connections mobilizes more than 1,120 students during their first days on campus

BRISTOL, R.I., August 21, 2007 - For the community of developmentally disabled artists who create artwork at the Top Drawer Arts Center in East Providence, R.I., the chance to draw and paint with Roger Williams University students next Monday is an experience to cherish.

“Everyone came together and sat around creating art,” said Liz Wiedenhofer, support coordinator for the center, about last year’s event. “It was great for the students to meet the artists and to see that it’s their vocation-it’s a meaningful part of their lives.”

Ande Diaz named associate dean of students after positions at Princeton, Harvard and Tufts

BRISTOL, R.I., August 16, 2007 - After an extensive search for a leader to direct its burgeoning Intercultural Center, Roger Williams University has named higher education veteran Ande Diaz its new associate dean of students and the Center’s director.

“Ande Diaz has demonstrated a longtime commitment to inclusive excellence, community service and civic engagement in higher education,” says University President Roy J. Nirschel. “Her appreciation for our core values-global perspective, civil discourse and community service, among others-makes her an ideal fit for the Roger Williams campus.”
