24th Annual World Trade Day to be held at Bryant on May 21

Smithfield, R.I. (April 24, 2009) - Bryant University will host its 24th Annual World Trade Day, “The Power of Trade: Strategies for Growth in the Globe Economy,” on Thursday, May 21. More than 500 business people are expected to attend the conference. Participants will benefit from the combination of policy experts, academicians, business leaders, and government officials, who will present the most current information and strategies for conducting business in even the most challenging times.

Keynote speakers include:

Laurent Vernerey, President and CEO, APC by Schneider Electric. “Strategic Market Selection for Growth” In 2007, Scheider Electric acquired APC and formed the Critical Power and Cooling Services (CPCS) Business Unit, which includes the APC and MGE UPS Systems brands. The CPCS Business Unit reported revenue of $3.5 billion in 2007 and employs 12,000 people worldwide. Schneider Electric, with 112,000 employees and operations in 190 countries, had 2007 annual sales of $25 billion. Vernerey’s senior management experience encompasses the fields of information systems, distribution, administration, sales, purchasing, customer service, and manufacturing.

Ray C. Anderson, founder, chairman, and chief operating officer of Interface, Inc. “Sustainability in Action - A Better Way!” Interface is the largest commercial carpet manufacturer in the world. A world-renowned advocate for sustainable industry, Anderson was named co-chair of the President’s Council on Sustainable Development in 1997 and, in 1999, he published the book, Mid-Course Correction: Toward a Sustainable Enterprise -The Interface Model. He hopes to attain “closed-loop recycling” at Interface, in which there will be no waste products or pollution produced. He travels the world, spreading the “gospel” of sustainability.
