JWU Announces ‘Veggin’ Out’ Sites for 2009

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – July 14, 2009 – Johnson & Wales University student and faculty volunteer chefs from the Feinstein Community Service Center have been a staple at Providence-area farmers’ markets for nearly a decade. Sharing their culinary and nutrition expertise about making the most of fresh produce with diverse audiences, the chefs conduct classes designed to educate those on fixed incomes or at nutritional risk. The Veggin’ Out Program summer 2009 schedule of appearances are as follows:

Five faculty admitted to RI Bar; Wed., May 6 – 11:00 a.m.,
Federal District Court, Kennedy Plaza, Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Five members of the Johnson & Wales Department of Legal Studies faculty will be admitted to the United States Supreme Court Bar on Wednesday, May 6th at 11:00 a.m. The ceremony will be held at the Federal District Court in Kennedy Plaza. The full time faculty are: Professor Guy Bissonnette; Assistant Professor Colleen Less; Professor Ernest Mayo; Professor Kenneth Schneyer; and Assistant Professor David Spatt.

JWU Receives Universitywide Recognition for Exemplary Community Service

For the third consecutive year, all four JWU campuses have been named to the President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for exemplary service to America’s communities. In the 2007-08 academic year, JWU students performed a total of 72,000 hours of community service work.

PROVIDENCE — After high school, Cinnamon Nevers had her pick of colleges.

A horse lover and honors student at her Bangor, Maine, high school, Nevers wanted a strong equine management program and was accepted to several top programs on the East Coast and in the Midwest. In the end, she chose Johnson & Wales University.

When Sanjiv Dhar graduated from Johnson & Wales University’s Providence campus in 1990, he took a job with Marriott Hotels in New York City. That same year, Kabob & Curry, a Thayer Street Indian restaurant that had opened two years before, came up for sale.

“One of the two partners that owned it called me up and said, ‘Listen, are you interested in this opportunity?’ ” Dhar, a native of India, said last week. “So that’s how I got into the restaurant industry in Rhode Island.”

JWU to co-sponsor Cox Rhode Races marathon

PROVIDENCE – The Cox Providence Rhode Races next May will feature a marathon, co-sponsored by Johnson & Wales University, representatives of the city, the university and the sports community announced this morning.

“JWU has had a long tradition of participating in cross-country racing, which dates back to the early ’60s,” Irving Schneider, the university’s Providence Campus president, said in a statement this morning. The new race will honor that history with an award in the name of former administrator Col. John McNulty, who helped launch cross-country racing at the school then known as Johnson & Wales Junior College.
