Providence, R.I. - Ashley Ham Pong’s first client as an aspiring attorney is a Liberian national facing deportation for criminal convictions. The seriousness of the case, and the consequences it carries, were apparent the first time she interviewed the man behind a glass window at a Massachusetts detention facility.

Grant allows for study possible Warren wind farm

East Bay Energy Consortium awarded grant to fuel wind farm study

EAST BAY — The East Bay Energy Consortium, a voluntary gathering of nine cities and towns of the East Bay, was recently awarded a total of $140,000 that will go to a wind farm feasibility study. Hopefully, organizers say, the study will help the consortium map out the best locations to put wind turbines that will offset growing energy demands without emitting pollutants and CO2 into the atmosphere.

College program’s orientation begins with a road trip

A friendly rivalry between Massachusetts and Rhode Island over development of wind energy heated up this summer as Massachusetts released what it described as the “nation’s first draft comprehensive ocean management plan” that identifies sites for potential wind energy development.

RWU Receives $1 Million Federal Grant to Expand Center for Environmental and Economic Development

In an effort to help create jobs and boost Rhode Island’s shell fishing industry, U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-RI) today announced that Roger Williams University will receive a $1 million Economic Development Administration (EDA) grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to expand the university’s Center for Environmental and Economic Development (CEED). The federal funding will be used to upgrade the Center’s existing seawater infrastructure, equip an expanded shellfish hatchery, and provide educational and research capacity to support continued growth of the regional aquaculture industry. Overall, the project is expected to help create 250 jobs.
