The Association of Independent Colleges and Universities of Rhode Island welcomes college students to participate in an internship program with the organization. Students will have the opportunity to earn academic credit while gaining valuable knowledge, training, and experience. Students participating in the program will receive a stipend for related and miscellaneous expenses associated with their participation in the program such as parking, mileage, etc.

Membership Services Assistant/Student Intern

Position Overview

The membership services assistant/student intern will work with and under the direction of AICU Rhode Island staff to develop a broad-based understanding of independent higher education in Rhode Island. The intern will assist with some or all of the following activities:

Essential Job Functions

  • Special Projects
  • Research/data collection & updating – Coordination & assembly of data
  • Creation/design of reports, spreadsheets, interactive forms/surveys, etc.
    • Input of collected/updated data into reports, etc.
  • Legislative bill tracking/monitoring & status reports
  • Report completion & filings (lobbyist reports, higher education surveys, etc.)
  • Attend peer group meetings & record meeting summaries/minutes
  • Attend legislative hearings/meetings at the State House
  • Communication/interaction with peer groups & member institution staff
  • Meeting coordination, notification, and data requests/submissions
  • Monitor/filter member news for Website updates & assist with submission of relevant updates

Non-essential Job Functions

  • Occasional business-related errands
  • Basic clerical office duties (filing, organization, etc.)
  • Minimal scheduling
