The Internship That Changed a Life – and a Career

Jacquelyn Lussier ’20 is a Media & Communications Studies major and recently landed an internship with the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Below, she recounts her experience and how it changed the course of her career and life.

Have you ever watched a documentary that changed your life?

As an intern at the Rhode Island International Film Festival, not only did I consume 100+ hours of content as a part of their official selection process, I was impacted enough by my experience to change the career track I was on.

Bryant University Board of Trustees announces appointment of Economist and CCSNH Chancellor Dr. Ross Gittell as Bryant’s Ninth President

Van Wickle Ventures gives student entrepreneurs an investor’s perspective on startups

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — By the time Rhaime Kim was a junior at Brown, she had already interned at four startups, developed a financial technology venture of her own, and participated in B-Lab — an accelerator program based at the Nelson Center for Entrepreneurship.

But the computer science concentrator felt there was something missing from her entrepreneurial training.

Making Progress in Puerto Rico

Designer Karla López Rivera 04 FD is among the residents of Puerto Rico who are working to pull the US territory out of a crippling, long-term recession. Even before Hurricane Maria hit in September 2017 and left the island literally powerless to rebuild, local businesses were navigating a debt crisis that caused many to close up shop.

But now Puerto Rican startups are on the rise, and Isleñas (Islander), the socially responsible footwear company López launched after returning to the island in 2018, is among them.
