Rhode Island’s two accredited public health entities — the Rhode Island Department of Health and the Brown University School of Public Health — launched a new academic partnership.

PROVIDENCE, R.I. [Brown University] — The Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) and the Brown University School of Public Health have launched a new academic partnership aimed at building healthy communities and creating a hub of public health research and innovation in Rhode Island. This alliance makes RIDOH an “academic health department” or a teaching health department — the public health equivalent of “teaching hospital” affiliations that formalize the relationship between medical schools and hospitals.

Both institutions have received formal accreditations in the past year. The School of Public Health, which launched in 2013, earned accreditation in June by the Council on Education for Public Health, to join with RIDOH, which was accredited by the Public Health Accreditation Board in November 2015, to become the state’s public health-accredited entities.

PROVIDENCE – Brown University ranked No. 12 on College Choice’s 2016 list of the 50 Best Master’s in Computer Science degree programs.

Master’s students within Brown’s program have a choice between a thesis, project or coursework only track.

College Choice’s rankings were based on cost of tuition, average salary of recent graduates and the school’s overall academic reputation. College websites, statistics and ranking websites provided this information. Brown’s total tuition is $50,224.

PROVIDENCE – Brown University has one of the best women’s studies programs in the country, according to College Choice.

The college search and rankings website released a list on Wednesday ranking the “50 Best Women’s Studies Programs in the U.S.”

Brown University ranked 23rd.

Brown University was praised for its consistently strong rankings and notable and successful alumni. It was recognized for its its Gender and Sexuality Studies Program, as well as the Pembroke Center for Teaching and Research on Women which manages archives and collections on women and feminist history and publishes “differences: A Journal of Feminist Cultural Studies” three times a year.

PROVIDENCE – Earlier this month, The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University and Hope Hospice & Palliative Care Rhode Island announced a renewed and expanded affiliation for five additional years.

This agreement formalizes the very strong relationship we have with the medical school, our commitment to train physicians and future physicians in hospice and palliative care and the medical school’s recognition that this kind of education is an important part of training, Dr. Ed Martin, chief medical officer at Hope Hospice RI, said in a phone interview with Providence Business News. The two organizations, which first affiliated in 2012, have long collaborated in providing training every year.
