Great jobs before winter break

Financial Services major Eric Mauricio ’19 aspires to one day become a financial planner and assist those who need help reaching their financial goals. Though still a senior in college, he’s recently accepted a job as a Financial Solutions Advisor for Merrill Edge that will bring him one step closer to that objective. And he’s not alone – Mauricio is just one of Bryant’s seniors who have secured a job in their chosen field.

Courses in personal financial planning and consumer behavior, taught by leading scholars and industry professionals, helped Mauricio prepare for an internship with Bank of America Merrill Lynch’s Advisor Development Program. That experience ultimately yielded several job offers, including the one he accepted.

“David Beausejour, my personal financial planning professor, would talk about his experiences with his clients, which I really enjoyed because he brought that real-world touch to what he taught,” Mauricio says.

He also valued Bryant’s focus on developing well-rounded professionals.  “I like that Bryant allows me to take a variety of courses from all different disciplines,” says Mauricio. “My friends ask me, ‘Aren’t you a Financial Services major? Why are you taking marketing? Why are you taking actuarial science? Why do you take this, why do you take that?’ And I tell them, ‘Because I’m going to need it.’”…Click to read more

‘Entirely unique … by design’: Behind the high ranking of Bryant’s IB Program

Every year, as part of its Best College rankings, U.S. News & World Report includes a list of top international business programs, and this year Bryant’s International Business (IB) Program came in at number 25, one of the nation’s best. It’s a significant accomplishment for such a young academic program whose first graduates entered the job market just a decade ago.

The program’s distinctive features are garnering national attention from presidents, provosts, deans and senior faculty members of AACSB-accredited institutions, whose nominations for the rankings were solicited by U.S. News. Their responses earned Bryant the outstanding recognition.

A program built with global ambitions

Through the program, students gain the knowledge and credentials necessary to become multinational specialists in a chosen concentration, graduating with a B.S. in International Business. The program boasts a nearly 100% placement rate within six months of graduation, with most grads going into full-time employment and some to graduate school.

“The precise combination of all the elements of this program make it entirely unique, and that’s by design,” says Bryant’s College of Business Dean Madan Annavarjula, Ph.D., the program’s co-founder. “We’ve sought to build a best practices program.”…Click to read more

New WaterFire Access Program Boat Dedication to take place on August 25th, 2018

WaterFire is proud to announce the Access Program Boat Dedication on August 25th, which will be part of the lighting ceremony

WaterFire’s commitment to include each and every visitor resulted in WaterFire’s Access Program; The Access Program is offered by WaterFire to accommodate individuals with disabilities so they may enjoy the magic of WaterFire free from the physical restrictions and challenges the outdoor location might present.

The Access Program Boat Dedication will take place prior to the lighting ceremony at the guest boat dock adjacent to Memorial Park and the College Street Bridge at 6:30 pm. The public is invited to celebrate with us as we toast to the new boat and reveal its dedication. Access Boat donor Mark Scott and representatives from Bryant University, its Graduate, & Physician Assistant Programs will be lighting the wall and the Access Boat will officially receive its name, Sandra Jane.

WaterFire Providence is excited to welcome Bryant University, its Graduate, & Physician Assistant Programs as the Lead Access Program Sponsor. “We are honored to partner with WaterFire as two organizations dedicated to enhancing people’s’ lives. Together, we recognize and celebrate the value of all people in our community,” said Bryant Provost and Chief Academic Officer Glenn Sulmasy.

As the first fully accredited PA program in Rhode Island, we recognize the crucial need to be part of the solution to the complex healthcare challenges for our community including providing universal access for all,” said Robert Jay Amrien, MPAS, PA-C, director of Bryant’s Physician Assistant program. “Sponsoring the WaterFire access boat “Sandra Jane” seemed like a perfect way to raise awareness of health care disparities, including our disabled citizens.”

Replica of ancient cave will transport visitors to China’s Silk Road

For ten days this fall, Bryant University will use virtual reality and painstakingly reconstructed replicas to bring an ancient Chinese cave and its artistic treasures to campus.

Dunhuang: An Oasis for East-West Cultural, Commercial, and Religious Exchanges Along the Ancient Silk Road  opens Sept. 27 in the George E. Bello Center for Information and Technology. Bryant is the first academic institution in the United States to host this interactive exhibition.

The centerpiece is a replica of Cave 285 of the Mogao Caves, a UNESCO World Heritage site in Gansu Province, China. This visually rich 6th-century cave is known for its exceptional collection of Buddhist artworks.

Through Oct. 6, guided tours will take visitors through the exhibition — a panoramic projection of the cave site — and into the reconstructed cave, an experience that will incorporate virtual reality. Events related to the exhibition include a series of seminars focusing on arts, culture, history, and religions represented in these caves.

Details about tour reservations and the complete calendar of events are forthcoming from the U.S.-China Institute at Bryant University.

Dunhuang was a melting pot of cultures and religions between the the 4th and 14th centuries. Travelers to Dunhuang dug caves into the nearby cliff faces, then decorated the caves with art in the hope of ensuring safety and success along the Silk Road. The result: The Mogao Caves house one of the world’s most extensive sites of Buddhist murals, statues, manuscripts, as well as art from Islamic and Greek cultures.
